Barry Lord, of Garden City, New York, passed away on August 9, 2026. He was 78 years old.

Barry was a devoted husband, the best father and grandfather—proudly known as “Papa”—a beloved son, brother, uncle, and a loyal friend to many. Above all else, Barry was a family man. His family was the center of his life, and he loved them deeply and unconditionally.

Barry grew up in Queens, New York, where he would eventually meet the love of his life, Joyce. Barry and Joyce shared 55 wonderful years of marriage, building a life and family together that meant everything to him. Joyce was truly his world, and the love and devotion they shared throughout their marriage was an example to everyone around them.

Barry was a loving and devoted father to Scott, Beth Ann, and Jeff. As their family grew, he welcomed their spouses, Suzanne, Joe, and Monica, loving each of them as his own. He was a beloved son to Harry and Irene and a great brother to Marvin and Lenny. 

One of Barry’s greatest joys was being “Papa” to his seven grandchildren: AJ, Jack, Vivian, Ben, Sophia, Joseph, and Christian. He loved each of them unconditionally and took tremendous pride in their lives and accomplishments. To them, he was simply the best Papa, a constant source of love, guidance, encouragement, and support.

Barry spent his career in the textile industry, beginning at Burlington and working his way up through the business before eventually founding his own company, Lordtex. He was a tireless business owner who conducted himself professionally the same way he lived his life: with honesty, integrity, and a strong sense of right and wrong. Those values were among the most important lessons he passed along to his children and grandchildren. He taught them that being successful was important, but being honest, ethical, and treating people the right way mattered far more.

As dedicated as Barry was to his career, business never came before family. His family was always the most important part of his life.

Barry loved being involved in the lives of his children and grandchildren, coaching and guiding them through the years. He could be tough, but he was always fair. He was never afraid to share his opinion, and everyone who knew Barry knew exactly where he stood. Behind that toughness was a man who cared deeply, wanted the very best for the people he loved, and would do anything for his family.

Barry was also a lifelong sports fan, with a particular love for basketball and baseball. A proud New Yorker, he rooted for New York teams throughout his life. In later years, however, some of his greatest team loyalties followed his grandchildren. He could frequently be seen around Garden City proudly wearing UNC and NC State gear, supporting the colleges that had become part of his family’s life. He was dedicated to GC sports and loved attending his grandchildren's games. 

Barry will be remembered most for the way he loved his family. He was always there, for Joyce, his children, his grandchildren, his extended family, and his many friends. He was someone you could depend on, someone whose word meant something, and someone whose presence made his family feel stronger.

We loved Barry deeply, and he will be missed more than words can express. He was taken from us far too soon, but the values he lived by, the lessons he taught, and the love he gave so freely will remain with his family forever.

We take comfort in knowing that Barry is now at peace and resting in Heaven. His legacy will live on through Joyce, his children, his grandchildren, and all those fortunate enough to have known and loved him.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Barry’s memory to Good Shepherd Hospice at Mercy Hospital whose caregivers treated our Dad with extraordinary compassion, dignity, and respect during his final days.
